You like me, You really like me (Sally Fields)

I have been awarded the Versatile Blogger award from 2 blogs.

versatile_blogger_award

One of my favorite things about blogging is meeting such GREAT people.  And these two are no exception:  Alicia @ Little Sprinkles of Fun and Jen and Tonic.    I cannot say enough good things about these two.  And their blogs are brand spankin AWESOME!!

So Here’s what I love about this award, you are supposed to Thank the people who gave you the award, pick new people to receive the award and tell 7 things about yourself.  I love reading these posts cus you get to learn about the blogger.  Those are some of my favorite posts!!  So without further ado, here are the bloggers I am passing this award on to:

Em @ That Crafty Mrs. V

Phyrflie @ Faries n Flutterbys

These guys have amazing blogs too so go check them out.

Seven things you might not know about me:

  1. I have not eaten a hamburger in 7 years.  In fact I have not had ground meat.  Ground beef, turkey, pork whatever.  Yuck!!  I hate that you can find things in it {you know what I mean}
  2. I grew up in Germany.  I spent 4 years in Karlsruhe and I miss it a lot!!
  3. I am more of a warm colors person.  I know teal and turquoise are in right now but I love yellows and oranges and browns and reds.  It seems more warm and inviting to me.
  4. I have the absolute best HUBBY ever!!  You may think you have the best but you would be wrong!!  I have never had to ask permission for anything or convince him to help with a project.  I read about some people begging for help or about their hubbs rolling eyes at their projects.  That is so not an issue for me.  Plus he does house work!!
  5. I am way against putting down your family.  I hate seeing people calling their spouses stupid or saying their kids are brats. It makes me really sad.
  6. I love to sing.  LOVE it!!  Unfortunately I am usually running around busy and don’t get a chance so I love long car rides where I can plug in my tunes.  I can usually be found driving down the freeway singing my head off.  So if you pass me just wave!! {I usually only sing in the car because even though I love it I am very self conscious}
  7. I am addicted to traveling!!  One of my favorite places is Hawaii.  Something about the ocean calms me and makes me feel peaceful.  Thank goodness my family loves to travel with me!

So there you have it 7 things you may not have know about me.  Thanks for the award Alicia and Jen!!

Memorial Day Printable

Memorial Day is a special holiday for me.  It is the day we honor the Heroes who have paid the ultimate price and laid down their lives for our freedom.  I have such respect and admiration for the brave men and women of our Armed Forces.  And especially for their families!!  I cannot imagine what it would be like to send your loved ones off to a war zone.

So in their honor, I have made a Memorial Day printable.  I’m sure everyone has heard this quote before, but I LOVE it!!  It is short and sweet and sums up everything perfectly.  I also think it is a good time to put some American décor in our homes with Independence day coming.  So I hope you like it.

Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint may just be my new bestie!!

So I was thrifting and I saw this super cute little table.

oil rubbed bronze 1

Ok yes it’s dirty and it has that old school yellowish wood color to it.  But the lines are gorgeous and I knew I could make it into something cool.

My first thought was to paint it turquois.  Cute huh?  But I didn’t because I was worried that if I wanted to change out my décor in the future I would be stuck incorporating a turquois table.  I decided to do the old standby.  Paint it white and glaze it.

oil rubbed bronze 2

This turned out okay, but I wasn’t in love with it.  It was rather blah.  So I left it for a week or two and hoped it would grow on me.  It didn’t.

That’s when I discovered Oil Rubbed Bronze Spray paint.  {lights shine down and heavenly choir sings aaahhh}  I have always loved oil rubbed bronze fixtures in a house but I didn’t know you could get that look in a spray paint.  I figured it would require several steps starting with a black base.  Boy was I wrong.

oil rubbed bronze 3

Look how pretty.  And no my pictures don’t do it justice.  It was so easy just point and spray.

But did I leave it like that??  Of course not.  Out came the sand paper and here is the final result.

oil rubbed bronze 4

Since I had a white layer underneath, it came through as I sanded.  I like it.  What do you think.  It reminds me a little of faded jeans {if they were black of course}

And turns out I had the very place for this little cute table:

oil rubbed bronze 5

So the moral of the story:  Oil rubbed bronze spray paint, Get it.  Use it.  And if you do send me a pic.

Book Club Meeting

It’s time for May’s Book Club Meeting!!

n138817

Uglies is one of my favorite books of all time and I hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I did!!

Here are my thoughts on this book:

Uglies is one of those books that you read late into the night.  Sacrificing sleep so you can see what happens to Tally and the smoke.  I was mesmerized with the idea of a future where being pretty is the only thing that mattered.  This was an entirely new concept to me and I loved exploring it.  I fell in love with Tally and David’s young romance.  And cheered for their brave efforts to make change in their culture.

The technology in this book was very intriguing for me {yes I’m a nerd}.  Skintennas that keep you plugged into social media {I would SO not want this…too invasive}  Walls that spit out the latest fashion, solar powered hover boards and lets not forget spagbol.  This lighter side of the book made it so the message didn’t come across as too preachy for me.  I loved this book so much that I when I got to the ending I had to go out and immediately get the next one in the series. I have a love hate relationship with cliff hanger endings but this one was great.  Tally’s world blew up in her face inadvertently and the secret to the pretty operation was revealed. All of this leading to the Tally’s decision to join new pretty town as a pretty herself to see if a potentially dangerous cure worked.  How can you not run out for the next one after that?

A BIG thanks to our Book Club sponsor for May: Gingersnaps!!

Discussion Questions by Scott Westerfeld the author himself:

1. Have you ever had a friend like Peris, who abandoned your friendship after they moved away?

2. At first, did you hope Tally would get the operation? When did you change your mind? (Or did you?)

3. Have you ever found yourself trusting someone more or paying more attention to what they said not because they deserved it, but just because of their looks?

4. In what ways did Tally’s trip through the wild prepare her for what she learned in the Smoke?

5. Would you give up your ability to think independently in exchange for being happy, beautiful, perpetually healthy, and rich?

6. How did David see Tally differently than she saw herself?

7. If Shay could have gone back in time and never have met Tally, do you think she would?

8. Other than the pretty operation, what are the main differences between the pretty society and our own? (Are there any ways in which the pretty society is healthier than ours?)

9. To what extent did Tally decide her own fate, and how much did other people decide it for her?

10. The Rusty civilization collapsed because of its dependence on oil. In what ways is your lifestyle dependent on oil and gasoline? How easily would you survive if it all disappeared one day?

Looking forward to hearing what you thought!!!

Quirky Tip of the Day 2

It’s time for another edition of Quirky Tip of the Day!! {Imagine that said in a cheesy game show hosts voice}  But in all seriousness people, this is an excellent tip.

How to make your own Leave in conditioner!!  I use this daily on my girls hair.  We have long thick hair in this family and no matter what I do, we play the tangle game.  I promise you things go easier if you use this on those tangles.

I’m also all about use what you have and since I cannot always run to the store in the morning before school {when we realize we have run out} this recipe is a must have!!

images

I use a spray bottle this size.  You can find them everywhere.  If not in the hair aisle, check the cleaning supplies or garden areas.  These size bottles are so much better.  They hold a lot so you are not refilling all the time and they spray well.  It gives better easier coverage.

Making this is VERY simple.  All you do is put some of your regular conditioner into the bottle.  For this size bottle, I use 1/4- 1/2 cup.  I don’t really measure, I just have gotten used to how much {approximately} it takes.

The next step is important.  You must use HOT water.  If you don’t, the conditioner won’t mix with the water and you will have cold water and lumps of conditioner.  You need HOT water for it to mix together.

Fill up the bottle with HOT water but leave about 2 inches from the top empty.  You need this empty space to be able to shake the mixture up.

And that’s all folks!!  If you find you like more conditioner in your mixture you can use more but be careful.  If you put too much the hair will become saturated.  Like when you haven’t rinsed enough after a shower.  But feel free to play around with it.  This is a total lifesaver in a family with 3 little girls.

So there you have it.  Leave in conditioner.  Simple. Easy. Works.
