Best Quote EVER Printable

Have you guys heard the song Love like Crazy by Lee Brice?  I LOVE that song.  It just speaks to me.  The chorus goes like this:

Be a best friend, tell the truth
And overuse “I love you”
Go to work, do your best
Don’t outsmart your common sense
Never let your prayin’ knees get lazy
And love like crazy

Those words make me cry.  I have always tried to live my life this way so I’m sure that’s why the words speak to me so much.  Be a best friend…I absolutely believe in being best friends with my spouse and I have always said unequivocally that he is my BEST friend.  Tell the truth…honesty is so important to me.  I am honest to my core.  Overuse “I love you”…more love is always a good thing, and those simple words can change lives.  Go to work, do your best…I believe strongly in the power of hard work.  And we strive to teach our children the value of hard work and doing their best.  Don’t outsmart your common sense…this one is self explanatory.

My favorite lines of all are:

Never let your Prayin’ knees get lazy

and LOVE like crazy

It has become my motto since I first heard this song.

So I decided to make a printable with this motto on it.  I want to eventually make a photo collage of our family and hang this printable prominently in the center.

pray

Please take this printable and display it in your homes.  I believe that how we choose to decorate our homes sets the mood that our families feed off.  And I can’t think of a better mood.  Click on the image to download a high quality print.  It is sized to 8 x 10 but if you need a different size, just contact me.

Here is the music video for this song.  It’s worth a listen.

Ok sorry for all the sappiness {even though I mean every word} I promise to post something sarcastic soon.

Introducing TracFone

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of TracFone for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

A while ago I had this text message conversation with my daughter while she was playing at a friends house:

Mom

Yes

I’m nervous

Why are you nervous babe?

because I want to come home

Ok then come home

but I don’t want to be rude

Her friends weren’t being nice and she wanted to come home but she was worried that it would be rude if she left them.  I know this may not seem like a big issue, but to a little girl her age it was huge.  And I am SO glad I could be there for her.

I was happy she could discreetly text me but I would never want to have my children in a cell phone contract.  I wanted something easy and lets face it, I don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for my kids phone.

That’s why I am excited to learn about TracFone.

real TracFone customers

I love that we can get phones for the kids for the summer for pretty cheap. Also, there are no contracts, activation fees, credit checks or cancellation fees.  So when they go back to school we can stop using their phones or cut back easily.

You can pay as you go online or buy cards at lots of retailers.  You can get 200 minutes for as low as $30 or 50 minutes for as low as $9.99.  I think that is the plan we would probably go with because my girls don’t need to be making a lot of calls and we would definitely use texting more.  You can also buy ”Double the minutes for the life of your phone” for only 19.99 but some phones come with it.

They have brand name phones from simple “candy bar” phones to smart phones.

so many features

I don’t have much of a need to call internationally but if I did I would certainly go with TracFone.  They are the only wireless service where you can call internationally for the same price as any other call.  That’s pretty huge.

They have nationwide coverage and great reception.

Best ever tip for getting rid of red stains on carpet

Our book club selection for July/August is:

images.

And now you are going wait…book club?  What does that have to do with removing red stains.  Well let me tell you.

Since we are about half way to our meeting you have probably started the book and I can tell you that most of the main characters work as maids and nannies.  Hence The Help.  Clever huh?

So I decided in honor of this book to let go of my best cleaning secret.  {It’s not really a big secret cus I will tell you all my tips eventually hehe}

First off I want to let you know that I do not have any pictures for this post because thankfully I do not have any recent red spills {hooray!!}  But it is still worth reading this tip.

The first thing I do is get a big, big mug and fill it with water to the very top.  Then I flood the stained area with water.  This only works if you get to the stain when it is fresh.  Poor tons of water over that stain.  It will dilute the stain and break it up.  Then put a towel over the top and step on it with your feet drawing the stain into the towel.  This works well for most fresh stains but some deep colors can leave a faded hue.  Or if you didn’t get to the stain in time then what??

This is the best ever tip part.  You are gonna think it’s kooky and crazy but it really does work.  Take a cup of water and put several generous squirts of dish soap into the water.  Pour this over the stain.  Then take a white towel and place it on top.  Using your Iron {yes I said Iron} you want to iron the towel.  That’s right iron over the white towel that is sitting on top of the soapy water that is on top of the stain.  Weird right?  What you will find is that the stain is pulled into the towel.  Your white towel will take on a pinkish hue and the stain will lighten.  I’m not gonna lie this takes patience.  But it does work.  Even on set in stains.  Try it you will see.  And then tell me how it worked for you.

And keep reading The Help.  Because it’s a GREAT book!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m so delighted to guest blog for Connie today! Like many of you, I’m an avid reader and thought I’d take this opportunity to share with you one of my absolute favorite books, The Red Tent by Anita Diamant.
GuestBlog
Have you read The Red Tent? Historically based and beautifully written, Anita’s fictional account about the women of the Bible captured my imagination and kept me enthralled beginning with page one, all the way to its end.
While in the Bible, Dinah (nor any women, really) is given no voice, and her life is only hinted at in a minor mention of violence within the more familiar chapters of the Book of Genesis that are about her father Jacob and his sons. Told in Dinah’s voice, this novel turns the short, brutal Bible verses into a full saga of Dinah’s life and the lives of her mothers and reveals the traditions and turmoil of ancient women.
Much of the story takes place in the red tent where women were segregated each month while they were considered, “unclean.” Their separation allowed them to develop remarkable connections for support among the wives, concubines and the children they reared. The men in this story, the men that are at the center of the Bible, are on the outside of the tent; Biblical events are the framework ~ a fascinating and imaginative story line!
For me, a great book makes me think about the themes woven within the story and how they may relate to my own life. Since reading this book, and particularly when I or my family or friends face obstacles and tragedy, Dinah’s story lingers with me and reminds me that we should embrace our womanhood. The beauty of birth, the sorrows and wonders of aging, the horrors of injustice are all written about in The Red Tent, and in real life, are all parts of our lives. I found the end of the book so beautiful and profound, especially as it touches on perhaps the cruelest fate ~ to be forgotten.
A great book also leaves me wanting more at its end. I read this book five years ago and I’m still waiting for Ms. Diamant to write another story! Maybe she’ll reimagine another tale for another woman mentioned in the Bible ~ I want another!
This is not a religious book despite its subject matter and setting. You can be Christian, Jewish or any faith or not, and still appreciate its themes beautiful prose, but be warned, there are some unsettling, violent passages. And you’ll also probably need a tissue at least once.
Quirky Tip of the Day
Summer is upon us and I LOVE it.  But one thing I hate is bug bites.  Especially mosquitoes.  The itching drives me crazy.  It’s even worse when my girls get a bite.  What can you do?  Um try not to itch it honey.  Well no more…Introducing the cure all for itchy bug bites.  {well at least it helps a lot}
vicks-50g
Apparently it works because the menthol in it is a local anesthetic.  So get rid of the redness and itching once and for all.
I haven’t tried this tip out yet.  I don’t know how I got lucky enough not to have any mosquito bites this year.  Crossing my fingers that trend keeps up.  So if you try this let me know how it works.
This tip is brought to you from The People’s Pharmacy.
Yummy Corn chowder
corn chowder
I made this recipe the other day and it was super yummy!!  I put it in the crock pot and just let it go.  I know soups aren’t always welcome in the hot summer months.  But using the crock pot actually keeps your house cooler than the oven so I like to use it a lot during the summer.
  • 1/2 cup diced ham {I’ve seen this done with bacon too}
  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cups water
  • 3 cups corn
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 cups half-and-half
This soup is so yummy.  You have to try it!!
Thankful Thursday
I am so Amazed at the wonderful people out there in blog land.  I have had some amazing people offer to guest blog for me as I’m going through this stressful time.  And I can’t thank them enough.  One of the major surprises I had when I started blogging was how nice and helpful everyone is.  People who don’t even know you are so willing to help you out.  And it seems with one email you are fast friends.  This medium isn’t super competitive and I couldn’t be happier that I started blogging.  I wouldn’t have met some seriously amazing people!  So a BIG thank you to everyone who offered to help me out and those that gave wonderful words of support!!!!
Quirky Tip of the Day~removing sticky finisher
So I love using wood stain and finisher, But I absolutely hate what it does to my hands.  That stuff can be very sticky.  And it won’t come off with soap and water or stronger cleaner.  Believe me!!
So what do you do when you just finished a project and your hands look like this:
how to clean varnish from hands
{Yes that is my rings still on my finger underneath the gooey mess.  It may not look like it but that stuff is sticky!!}
Go to your pantry and pull out…drum roll please…
veg
Good ol heavy duty cooking oil.
Can you tell I grabbed this bottle with my dirty hands?  That’s right nothing but the best for my blog hehe.
But seriously this stuff works like you wouldn’t believe.  Rub the oil over your hands.  It will still look all dark and yucky and you may think it isn’t working.  But it is.  Trust me.  You now need soap and water to remove the oil.  And once you wash off the oil all the sticky yucky mess goes with it and you are left with:
clean
Clean hands!!
{yes that is the same hand.  You can tell because of the rings and also the yucky stain mess I just washed off is still in the bottom of the sink.  That’s right I took the picture before cleaning the sink.  Just keeping it real.}
This really works folks.  Try it you might buy it.
