    Thankful Thursday~~Fall Weather

I don’t have a favorite season {you know me and favorites}, but I do love to have a change.  It’s probably why I love year round school so much.  You get tired of going to school and you get a break, you get tired of being home and you go back.  For me it’s so much better than going to school for such a long time and then having a long summer break.  But I digress…

SO I’m loving the change in the weather.  I am thinking of snuggling up with a warm blanket.

Fall colors, leaves, cuddling and snuggling…..Need I go on?  I am LOVING this weather.  Till it snows and then I will LOVE the Peach on earth of Christmas season.  And then the first blooms of spring.  And the lazy days of summer….

    What is your favorite season??

    Pumpkin Patch Decor

We always go to the pumpkin patch with our family every year.  It’s tons of fun.  Last year, I decided to do these Apple Gords for accessories.  They do take a long, long time to dry but they turn out super cute.

Here’s what mine look like now:

    apple gord 1

Some people paint them to look more like apples.

    {source}                                                                   {source}

But I love the way mine dried.  The spots are really cool to me.  I may paint them later on.  But for now I’m loving them natural.

    apple gord 2apple gord 3

See all that delicious spottiness.  I love it!!  They don’t start out like that though.  Here is how you buy them.

    SAMSUNG SAMSUNG

They look a lot different.  After you get them, you need to let them sit and dry.  It takes a long time.  Mine was close to a year.  Just put it somewhere dry and leave it.  You might check it every so often to make sure it isn’t growing mold.  But if it is put somewhere dry then you should be ok.  After it dries it gets lighter in color.  And grows those amazing spots.

Then you can paint them or leave them.

    apple gord 7

I may still paint mine.  The tall one is supposed to be a pear and I’m not sure if you can tell unpainted.  But I do LOVE them.  Have you ever done any apple gords??

    Thankful Thursday

My cousin is coming to stay with us.  Arriving tonight.  And I am so thankful today for their visit!!  I absolutely LOVE when they visit!!  She has three adorable boys.  I don’t know what it is, but when my girls and her boys get together, they behave so well.  We never hear any fighting or whining.  It’s AWESOME!!

I have been wanting to do a family rules sign for the landing on our stairs.  And this seemed like a perfect time to do it.  So here is what I came up with:

    family rules q

I have seen these signs all over blog land and I LOVE them.  I used sayings that mean something to my family.  This is sized to an 8×10 but I am going to do it much larger.  However with the move and the bridal shower I threw last sat.  And the company today, I haven’t gotten mine made yet.  {are you tired of the excuses yet?}  But I will make it.  And I will show you when I do.  For now, If you would like one for yourself, please click on the image above to download it.  I would love to see what you do with it!!  IF you need a different size just leave me a comment.  Thanks!!

    Book Club updates

Is everyone enjoying our selection for September and October??  As a reminder, we are reading:

    Sarah’s Key

    by

    Tatiana DeRosnay

This book is very powerful.  It is a story that stays with you.  I used to travel a lot and I would always go to the book store at the airport and get a book to read on my flights.  I picked this one up not knowing much about it and I finished it that trip.  I was so moved by this book.  I came home and immediately loaned it to my friend.  Basically made her read it because I wanted someone to talk to about it.  It is well worth your time to read it.

I wanted to post a few discussion questions for those people that are done reading or have started.  I won’t give anything away.

. What did you know about France’s role in World War II—and the Vél d’Hiv round-up in particular—before reading Sarah’s Key? How did this book teach you about, or change your impression of, this important chapter in French history?

. Sarah’s Key is composed of two interweaving story lines: Sarah’s, in the past, and Julia’s quest in the present day. Discuss the structure and prose-style of each narrative. Did you enjoy the alternating stories and time-frames? What are the strengths or drawbacks of this format?

. Per above: Which “voice” did you prefer: Sarah’s or Julia’s? Why? Is one more or less authentic than the other? If you could meet either of the two characters, which one would you choose?

Let me know your thoughts.  Have you started or finished this book yet?  I am so looking forward to this discussion.  This book is one I think you will want to talk about.  I know I did.  Happy reading!!

    Funny Finds for Friday–1st graders

I have seen this floating around email land before but it always cracks me up.  So here is to a great weekend!!

A 1st grade school teacher had twenty-six students in her class. She presented each child in her classroom the 1st half of a well-known proverb and asked them to come up with the remainder of the proverb. It’s hard to believe these were actually done by first graders. Their insight may surprise you.. While reading, keep in mind that these are first-graders, 6-year-olds, because the last one is a classic!
