How to get large prints for CHEAP!!

I have seen this around the blogosphere quite a bit so you might have already seen this tip.  But in case you haven’t, it is too good not to share.

I love to decorate with photos.  It’s an important part of my home decor.  I think it shows your family that you love them enough to put them in prominent places in your home.  A long time ago someone told me that children that have pics of themselves in their rooms have higher self esteem.  I don’t know if this is true or not but it makes sense that seeing a loving family or a beautiful child daily would make a difference.  To that end, I decided to print my favorite family photo pretty big.  I bet you can’t guess which one I used??

I just love this family pic.  It captures everyone’s personalities so well. You can see the reason I call my middle daughter “laughter”.  It is an old picture.  My youngest is almost 3 now.  But I don’t think it is bad to look back on times in our lives and this photo lets me do that.

So how to print a picture this large for cheap.  And how much is cheap.  How about $2.99.

$2.99 are you out of your mind??

Ok so here’s the insider secret.  Go to an office supply store.  I used Staples.  I also did it online.  On their website, you look for engineering prints.  It will walk you through the steps of uploading your photo.  Then you can pick how large you want it printed. There are only a couple of options but they seem to be pretty standard sizes.  The smallest option fit my frame exactly.  After that you preview it and submit it.  They will print it and you can have it shipped to you or go pick it up.  It’s that easy.

A couple of things, you can only have it printed in black and white.  It is not photo quality.  It does not come on photo paper.  I think it came out great though.  And for 2.99 I can change it out often.

So there you go, now you can be an insider too.

I am working on a makeover for “laughter’s” room.  I will be doing another large print but it will be more of a canvas than a frame like this one.  Details to come so stay tuned.

Thanks for reading.

Hey! I just read your blog on large prints, I have been looking for this for a long time… On the staples website for engineered prints it says that ‘it is not suitable for photos’ are they just saying this? Also, do they only print them in black and white?

  5. How did you get your photos to “fit the page”? When I uploaded my photos to staples.com’s engineer prints they’re really small on the page.
