Hello everyone. I recently posted our home story and today I am following it up with our Home tour. Let me first say that this is a preliminary tour. I do not have things decorated and finished the way I want it yet. There is much to do. Also, we do live in our home so you may see evidence of that.
I have been nervous to post this because it is hard to convey the floor plan in pics. Or maybe I am just not that great of a photographer. But I am learning. When I see home tours, I always try to get a feel for the floor plan. Sometimes you really can’t tell and their explanations are confusing. I didn’t want to do this for you guys. So I decided to give you the floor plan up front.
This home builder really knew how to use space well. One of my favorite parts of the house is the kitchen pantry. It is walk in and it goes the whole length of the back wall. We can fit so much in there!! They also do closets and bathrooms well. Which you will see in the second floor tour. I like that there is a space for a “mud room” of sorts when you first walk in from the garage. It is mixed in with the laundry room but I love that we can kick off our shoes and hang our coats and backpacks when we first walk in.
So now you have a bit of an idea of the floor plan, here is my home.
We like having a bit of a porch where we can sit and watch kids playing. Hubbs wants to extend it and wrap it around the house some day. Since we live a bit out in the country, we get lots of birds. This year they have built nests at the top of those posts on the porch. It has been fun to hear their songs and see the new babies but they do make a HUGE mess. Hubbs is going to put some mesh stuff up to stop them from doing this. It’s cool to look outside and see birds hopping around the lawn. We don’t love the landscaping. We definately want to remove the shrubs up front. The wisteria is going also. The roses are ok but I’m not really loving them. We’ll see what happens with them.
Welcome, here is the view from the front door. I love that you can see all the way through to the outside. As you first walk in, on the right side is the formal living room. It was so hard to get a pic of this room because you can’t back up enough to get the whole room in one shot. But here are two. The color on the wall was there when we moved in. I don’t love it but it isn’t horrible. So changing it isn’t top of the list. But I haven’t hung anything on the wall yet either.
Walking down the hall the stairs are to your left. Just past that is the kitchen.
Behind that yellow door is my AWESOME pantry!! It goes the whole length of that back wall.
Remember my chalkboard? It’s here in the kitchen.
Immediately next to the kitchen is the Dining room.
See the high bar right there? That is the kitchen. I love having the bar. When the hubbs isn’t here, my girls eat dinner right there. I’m experimenting with the bar stool color. I don’t know if I love the blue. What do you think?
I am looking for a different dining set. I feel like something rectangular would work better in this space. I also am keeping an eye out for a buffet for this room. I don’t love the hutch anymore. It’s sad because it was my first furniture makeover ever. My hubbs and I did it when we were pregnant with my first baby. So it’s hard to get rid of. But I want something shorter so I can hang things above it. And use the top for display. We also want to change out the lighting.
You have now reached the back of the house on the right hand side. On the left after the stairs, you see the family room. This may be my favorite room in the house. It is large and fits my whole extended family. I LOVE that!!
As you can see I’m having a hard time with putting things on the walls. I want a gallery wall but I don’t know how to do it with the board and batten. I don’t want to put a line of pics above the board and batten because that is pretty high and you have to look up to see them. Which feels unnatural. So I don’t know exactly how and where to hang them. Suggestions are appreciated!!
I also want to change out the rug. I am working on a painted drop cloth rug. We’ll see if it looks good in this space. Hubbs wants to put can lights in something fierce. He kinda hates when builders leave rooms with no lighting. I don’t love the sectional that much either but it is going to have to stay for a minute. One of these days when my hubbs isn’t working like crazy, I would like to get the tv hung on the wall. and do something about the electronics. We have the ugly yet super functional atomic clock. Then the cable DVR. Then the big media server sitting right on the the tv console. I’d love to figure out how to hide them.
Next to the family room is the laundry room and the downstairs bathroom. They are plain jane and waiting for a make over.
One of the BEST parts of this home is the view out the back.
That’s right, there is a dairy farm for our back door neighboors. It’s pretty cool. We have large windows and we can look out and see the cows wandering. Since it is fields and not a lot of buildings, the view at night is awesome too. You can look out and see lights of the city off in the distance.
So there you have it. Our home tour-first floor. I do wish I could have taken better pics. I don’t feel like I captured it really well. And I hope my explanations weren’t confusing. I really need to get working on these rooms. I just kinda am avoiding painting because I kinda hate it. Shhhh don’t tell. I love the easy change it gives a space but the process…pure torture. I’m sure it has something to do with my fibro. I walked into a friends house the other day to pick up my girls and her home had lots of stuff on the walls. It made it look so finished and lovely. I need to get over my timidness and just go for it.
Thanks for reading my home tour. I’m sorry it took so long to get it posted. Stay tuned for the second floor tour.
