See this beautiful girl:
You guys know Samantha right? We have always had a very strong bond and I love that about her. As you can see, she is growing up. I know…does anyone know how to stop that? She doesn’t climb up into moms lap anymore and she likes to spend time alone in her room. I know this is a normal part of growing up, but I do miss my little baby.
So when I had the chance to review some LEGO® Friends, I jumped on it. LEGO® Friends is a collection of building sets that blend the iconic LEGO construction experience with stories, settings and themes designed to meet children’s desire for creativity and a highly-detailed, character-based world. Since its launch in 2012, LEGO® Friends has dramatically increased the number of girls building with LEGO bricks and enjoying the benefits of construction play.
Samantha has always liked building and construction activities. She has a great mind for it and she LOVED this kit. Now she says she wants more Legos for her birthday.
I loved the fact that I could sit with her while she worked and have a sweet bonding moment. I asked her how she was doing in school, and if she was excited for Jr. High. We talked about her friends and who her locker buddy was going to be. She told me about her classes and how she hoped she would get chosen for honors classes.
We sat for about an hour building and talking. I loved her creativity in building this set. Children learn about themselves, others and the world through play; construction play allows children to be creative in a way that combines logic and reasoning with playfulness and imagination. This type of play helps children grasp the importance of persistence as they develop a sense of pride for their completed model or their own creation. And Samantha was perfectly suited for this type of play. I loved that it gave us a time out to reconnect. But it was also fun. She would find blocks and hold them up and say Oh mom, look at this one! What is it about things in miniature that makes them so darn cute. Here are a few of our favorites:
That my friends is a blender and smoothie maker. With little Lego fruit inside. I just love the cute details.
The pineapple is a favorite but all the little fruit was fun to find.
Sammy really liked the two people she got to play with. Her favorite might have been the money.
Taking the time to stop and play with my daughters is important. I can’t tell you how grateful I am to have the chance to raise these wonderful children. Having a family of all girls is a special thing.
- With a shared vision of unleashing confidence through accomplishment, LEGO® Friends has teamed up with Girls on the Run® (GOTR), a physical activity-based positive youth development program to inspire girls everywhere to achieve their limitless potential. Girls are using LEGO Friends bricks and elements to tell stories, embrace their differences and find strength in their connectedness.
Do you guys like construction play? Do you have other ideas to keep connecting with your kiddos?
