Funky Pretty Birthday Cake

I love the idea of a quirky but pretty birthday cake.

My daughter Emma had a birthday recently.  She requested a funky pretty birthday cake.  Which is so her.  She is quite girly but she also has a quirky side.  I tried to capture that in her cake. The outside is the funky part.  I used white frosting and piped it on in circles.  I used a big writing tip. It's the one that looks like a circle.  No points or star shapes.  Just a circle.  Then I filled in the holes with dots.  I didn't try to be too pretty or uniform or anything. The … [Read more...]

Monthly House Cleaning printable

I would use this dry erase house cleaning chart. Just mark something off when you are done and then erase and start over.

This post is sponsored by SC Johnson.  All opinions are mine. I have been in the mood for some Spring Cleaning.  Specifically house cleaning.  I've been wanting to get those jobs that don't need done all the time so you kind of put them off.  Or maybe that is just me.  I am pretty good with cleaning the kitchen and sweeping the floors everyday.  I fall short on things like cleaning out the oven or sweeping the garage. I thought maybe if I made a list to keep myself accountable it might … [Read more...]

Google reader going away

I'm sure by now you guys have heard that google reader is shutting down.  If not, log in to your google reader account and you will get a notification. I was sad when I first heard.  So I started looking into options.  I read blogs via rss feed and on my phone with google reader.  So I wanted something that worked well on mobile.  My current favorite is Feedly. What I love about them is they make it so easy to transition from google reader.  You can log in with your google reader … [Read more...]

Retro curls hairstyle

So doing these retro curls on my daughter. This hairstyle looks easy.

I love doing curled hairstyles.  On myself and my girls.  It makes them seem more precious to me.  This style is great for a fancier occasion.  I usually don't do curls just for school.  They are more time consuming and then kids run around at recess and all your hard work is down the drain.  I like to put my kids hair up for school.  It helps with the snarles. But then my girls play hard at recess.  I will probably do curls more once they hit Junior high. These curls are pretty … [Read more...]

Updating a plain glass vase

Stencil on your glass vases...why didn't I think of that.

I wrote this post as part of a campaign with Plaid and Blueprint Social. The opinions in this post are my own. My hubby bought me flowers a little while ago. They looked like spring in the middle of all the snow.  It was such a great surprise.  I like to dry and keep flowers.  They remind me that someone was thinking of me.  But I have a lot of plain glass vases.  I wanted to do something to dress this one up a little.  Enter FolkArt Enamels. I love their stencils.  They are … [Read more...]

Chocolate Strawberry Cream cupcakes

These chocolate Strawberry cream cupcakes look so good. I am definitely going to make them.

Twice a month I have a group of 11 year old girls over and we craft, sing songs, learn etc.  I love doing this.  They are such fun girls to get to know. They always expect treats.  Always.  Which is fine with me.  So I may be showing more treat recipes here on the blog.  I made these Chocolate Strawberry Cream cupcakes to celebrate a birthday we had in the group. The girls all LOVED them!  They went back for seconds.  I loved them also.  The chocolate and strawberry frosting went … [Read more...]

Happy Birthday Emma

bday girl

Today is Emma's birthday! Emma is the sweetest girl.  She will do anything you ask her to.  She is very loving and cuddly.  She has the BEST smile.  Emma loves to laugh and loves to make others laugh. Emma is in Chinese immersion at school.  She goes to half a day in English and half a day in chinese.  The other day she said to me, " you know mom sometime I think in chinese.  If I need to count, I always start in Chinese and then have to stop and count in English."  I love that she … [Read more...]

Starting seeds

I love this idea for starting seeds in eggshells.

I really wanted to start my plants from seed this year.  March is a great month to do this.  Even though the weather might not know it lol.  So when Daniel offered to guest post I asked him if he wouldn't mind writing about starting seeds. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The days are getting longer and the sun is shining a bit brighter. I’m tingling with anticipation at the thought of finally being able to get out in my garden and dig … [Read more...]

Surprise Talents

final

I am so excited to brag on my daughter today.  Samantha is so creative and talented.  She has always been an artist, but every day I am blow away by her talent.  Here is some of her work: Isn't she great? She has never had lessons, she just comes by it naturally.  Of course, practice makes perfect.  She can always be found sketching or painting. She was excited to do a video tutorial for you guys.  She is showing you how to draw Steamed Veggies in honor of Green giant. Art is … [Read more...]
