5 Hair Mask Recipes to Try to Combat Dryness

Winters are right around the corner; the colder months tend to be drier than the summer, which means your skin and hair will be craving some serious love and care.

If you’ve been neglecting your skin and hair and are beginning to notice tightness, itchiness, dandruff and your hair feels rough to the touch, don’t despair! Between weather changes, product use and styling, poor diets and the passage of time, our hair go through a lot.

Hair Masks to Combat Dryness

Hair masks and packs are an excellent way to get that deep conditioning treatment that will give your hair a new life. They’re easy to do and even easier to make, most of them needing no more than a few ingredients that you can easily purchase from a natural store, or find in your home.

Try the following recipes and watch your hair transform from dull, lifeless and dry strands to luscious, soft and shiny locks:

1)   Aloe and Coconut Hair Mask

For this mask, you’ll need:

  • 2 Tbsp. Aloe Vera Gel
  • 2 Tbsp. Coconut Oil
  • 1 Tsp. Honey (Optional)

Mix both ingredients and add in a teaspoon of honey, too, if you want. Massage it into your scalp and along the lengths of your hair, leave on for 30–45 minutes then shower. Aloe Vera and coconut oil have intense moisturizing properties that can nourish your hair intensely.

2)   Strawberry, Egg Yolk and Olive Oil

Seeing as how winter is just around the corner, seasonal fruits like strawberries are going to be in season soon. This fruit has incredible antioxidant properties and works like magic in face packs as well.

For this mask, you’ll need:

  • 3 Ripe Strawberries
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 3 Tbsp. Olive Oil

Since you’re working with chunky ingredients, you should mash the strawberries, or toss all your ingredients in a blender and whizz away till you get a fine paste. Leave on till it dries and spend time to wash out the puree. Comb or brush while showering to get it all out.

3)   Banana, Coconut Oil and Aloe

Mmm…bananas! These magic fruits are packed with potassium and lots of other important nutrients that can revitalize your hair.

  • 1 Ripe Banana
  • 3 Tbsp. Coconut Oil
  • 1 Tbsp. Aloe Vera Gel

Mash or blend all your ingredients untilyou have a fine paste and work from your scalp to your ends. For better results, apply this mask to damp—not wet—hair. Banana is a nightmare to get out,so be sure to comb through while you’re washing.

Don’t panic if your hair has some chunks left behind or feels drier—the banana can be hard to get rid of in a single wash, so don’t over-do the shampoo and conditioner, otherwise you’ll end up counter-acting the mask.

4)   Yogurt, ACV and Lemon

All three of these ingredients are like superfoods for your hair. They’re anti-inflammatory, antifungal and help to moisturize.

Take

  • 1 Tbsp. ACV
