Erectile dysfunction, also commonly referred to as impotence, is an increasingly common disorder amongst men. It can be brought on by a number of health problems, notably stress, anxiety, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, depression, smoking and alcohol abuse. Further, any disorder that impairs the circulation of blood through the body can affect erectile function. Sometimes, the medications used to treat these disorders can also trigger erectile dysfunction. A notable example are some anti-depressant drugs, especially the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). This includes the following:
- Citalopram (Celexa)
- Escitalopram (Lexapro)
- Fluoxetine (Prozac)
- Paroxetine (Paxil, Pexeva)
- Sertraline (Zoloft)
- Vilazodone (Viibryd)
However, they’re not the only culprits. There are also recreational and prescription drugs that list erectile dysfunction as one of the side effects. On this list we find the following:
- Alcohol
- Amphetamines
- Barbiturates
- Cocaine
- Marijuana
- Methadone
- Nicotine
- Opiates
Other things that can cause erectile dysfunction, particularly in males who shouldn’t normally have problems, include lack of confidence. Unfortunately, this fear of failure can spiral into full-blown depression if the erectile problems continue. Each successive ‘failure’ feeds into the self-doubt and backs up those feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem. It’s just as important in these cases to seek medical treatment as early as possible.
It’s also important to understand the ED is not in itself a ‘death sentence’. It is relatively easy to treat. Patients do however have to be proactive in seeking help. Identifying the cause of the dysfunction is the first step in the process. Are you stressed out by work, lifestyle choices, financial problems and so on? If so, take steps to mitigate them. No job is really worth sacrificing one’s health and well-being for! If you’re a heavy smoker and/or drinker, the solution is obvious and entirely in your own hands.
If there are underlying medical causes (depression, cardiovascular disease, diabetes etc) get medical attention. There are a number of very effective 5alpha-Reductase inhibitor drugs like Viagra available. You can also try natural remedies that contain aphrodisiacal herbs, like Angela Yeoh ED cure pills.
