A true story is always the best story and to be able to tell a true story you have to experience it first for it to be true. So I’m going to share with you my true story about a serious health issue that hit me by surprise. It changed my life and my way of eating. I now believe in greenhouses and gardens more than ever. This is my story and let me explain what I have learned and how it can benefit you.
We are always hearing something about all the processed foods in our grocery stores today. What to eat and what not to eat. Foods that are being recalled for various reasons. With the food I get from my garden I know what I’m getting and what is going into my body. Also, having a garden gives me the necessary exercise each person needs on a daily basis to stay healthy. Therefore, I am benefiting from my garden by getting my daily exercise, getting healthy foods and foods I like, and saving a tremendous amount of money every month.
I didn’t see the money savings so much until at the end of the year when I looked at how much I spend in each area of my life as a total. My health care cost, such as doctor visits, lab test, and medicines was cut back from approximately $800.00+ a month to almost $0.00 a month. I can’t grow my own doctor or prescription medicines so there are still some medical cost that we can’t get away from. Still my overall health cost has been reduced significantly since having a garden. Allowing me to afford to eat healthier and not having to pay the high price for the healthier foods. My food cost was cut back by 50% to 75% depending on what I grew in the garden. That’s a tremendous savings for anyone.
So let’s look at this in dollar amounts. If I spent a minimum of $150.00 a week at the grocery store, that’s $600.00 a month on basic food cost, and this is processed food which is not the best for you or your health. With having a garden I spend no more than $200.00 to $300.00 a month on food cost at the grocery store and it is totally healthy for me. Basic medical cost was $150.00 just to walk in the doctor’s office, lab test on average is $100.00 to $350.00 or more depending on what your having tested and how often, then medicine is averaged monthly at $100.00 to $500.00 and again depending on what and how much you need.
Below I will show you the low and high cost of each area, food and medical before I had a garden and after I planted a garden. The savings in real dollars is beyond belief and the health benefit is just as hard to believe. My doctors are still amazed at the health results as I am.
